In solidarity with our colleagues in USA

On Wednesday 9th May, London Hotel Workers Hotel Workers gathered in front of the Hyatt Andaz at Liverpool Street to support the actions of our brothers and sisters in the USA
who have been fighting for greater working conditions for years in
many Hyatt hotels across the country.

Unite/HERE, the union that represents
the hotel workers in USA has call for a boycott of the hotels

  • Hyatt is destroying good jobs and
exploiting migrant workers by sub-contracting its Housekeeping
  • Hyatt housekeepers have been found to
have the highest rate of injury in all of the USA.
  • Hyatt refused to remain neutral in
front of union organisation in their hotels.

UK hotel workers have also very good reasons to
boycott Hyatt. Here are some facts:

  • When Hyatt held the management contract
for the Carlton Towers the company de-recognised a long standing
union agreement with our predecessor union TGWU.
  • When Hyatt Churchill workers joined
Unite in large numbers, the company refused to enter in dialogue in
union recognition and refused union access to the hotel to
meet with staff who wished to join.
  • Housekeeping staff at the Hyatt
Churchill who registered grievances about health and safety
conditions complained they were subject to victimisation by managers.
